A Message from Derrick Dehnam

Welcome to my piano studio! 


My name is Derrick Denham. I am a passionate and dedicated piano teacher with over 30 years of experience, including 10 years of full-time teaching. Based in Memphis, TN, offering piano lessons that are also close to the surrounding areas, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Arlington, TN. 

My Musical Background

I earned my undergraduate degree in piano performance under the tutelage of the esteemed concert pianist Caroline Oltmanns at Youngstown State University. I further honed my craft by studying with Gloria Chien during my graduate studies at Lee University. This foundation has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to inspire my students to reach their fullest potential. As a performer, I serve as the pianist at the Church of the Good Shepherd and enjoy sharing my love for music through community recitals in the Memphis area. I believe that making music should be an enjoyable and enriching experience, and I strive to create a supportive environment for all my students.

My Teaching Philosophy

At My Piano Instructor, I welcome students of all ages, from children to adults. It's never too late to start learning piano, and there are countless cognitive benefits to playing music as an adult. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, I am here to help you tackle challenges and celebrate progress. My students have achieved remarkable success, earning diplomas from the ABRSM piano examination series and participating in prestigious events such as the Tennessee Governor’s School for Music. I strongly encourage my students to engage in local music festivals and competitions, fostering a sense of community and healthy artistic growth.
